Bathtub tints: a great way to make bath time fun

Bathtime with children can either be great fun, or a terrible chore. Unfortunately, the latter is far more common than the former. We've all stood there in exasperation after trying for what seems like hours to get a child to take their nightly bath. There's something about bathing, just like tooth brushing, that kids seem determined to avoid. However, livening up bath time can encourage your kids to climb into the bath and get themselves clean with a minimum of fuss.

Your bath might be full of all sorts of toys and gadgets to entice your kids inside. Dolls, plastic animals, floating balls. You name it, and it's probably in there somewhere. The only way, it seems, to get a kid into the bath and to keep them there is to well and truly distract them. However, toys and gadgets, while good fun, can take up a lot of space and leave your bathroom looking crowded and cramped. If you only have the one bathroom, you probably want to avoid this issue. This is where something known as bathtub tints can come in handy.

Bathtub tints are a sort of dye that you put into the bathwater. The dye will color the water a particular shade, such as red, blue, or green. Bath tints can make for an interesting look bath, and you'll find that kids will be curious to get in to see what it's all about. You can mix things up by changing the color of the water each night so that your kids are eager to get in to see what they'll be bathing in.

Another thing you can do with bathtub tints is mix together the different tint colors. This can be a great way to teach your children about primary colors, and about what happens when you mix together different colors. For example, start off using the red tint in your bathtub, and then show your kids what happens when you add blue. The next night, you can show them what happens when you add yellow to red. Not only will they be more than happy to get into the bathtub, but they'll also be learning about colors and mixing at the same time. These are valuable skills that they'll need to learn at school, so why not give them a head start?

Another thing that bathtub tints can be used for is to teach your children about dilution. Show them what color the bathwater turns if you add one trip of red dye. The water will likely be a vary pale pink once the dye has been stirred in and mixed about. Now, bit by bit, add a drop or two at at time. Pause in between each addition and swirl the water around. Your kids will be able to see how the water gradually gets darker as you add more and more dye. This is an interesting science experiment that you can also test out with other liquids around the home.
